The Scientific Committee recommends scientists responsible of tagging activities, like tagging surveys or opportunistic tagging by sporting or professional fishermen, to report general tagging information in order to facilitate recaptured tag identification when communicated to ICCAT.

This information should be reported to ICCAT Secretariat as soon as the tagging survey has finished or annually when tagging activity was performed through opportunistic recreational tagging.

Many research organizations carry out tagging programs aimed at collecting data on different tuna and tuna-like species in different regions of the Atlantic. The following is a list of recent or on-going programs:
